HAS ITS FIRST MARATHON RUNNER |
A young woman will make history when she runs the London Marathon for charity in
April. Marielle Powell, from London, plans to complete the iconic race for Renewal,
Advancement, Financial Freedom, Autonomy (RAFFA) to become the first person to run
a marathon for the
charity.
Launched in
November 2006 by the Church of God of Prophecy,
RAFFA has supported aid efforts in countries such as Georgia, South Africa, Ghana
and Jamaica. The charity also supports projects in Eastern European countries, Haiti,
and the UK. |
|
This is Marielle’s first full marathon
– she ran a half-marathon in
October 2008
and raised £1,600 for Cancer Research UK. She also completed the Windsor half-marathon
in 2009 |
|
Marielle, 28, said: ‘Long distance running became an interest in 2008 when I decided
to run my first half-marathon along with two friends. Although this was a challenging
experience, I found myself looking for the next race to enter. |
|
'I decided to run for RAFFA
because it addresses issues that are close to my heart. The various projects undertaken
by this charity seek to empower people and propel them into a better life rather
than just give out monetary handouts. I’m excited about running the London Marathon
this year and hope to raise a lot of money for this fantastic cause.' |
